Litha 2025

So, at the end of May, I lost my job. I decided to use the Summer Solstice to open myself to new opportunities (similar to my Labor Day ritual). I used many of the same ingredients and some similar wording. I also added more to welcome the sun and open the realms of magic for a more effective rite. I had some others who wanted to join, hoping to also open themselves up to new opportunities. Lastly, I lit a seven-day “Trabajo” candle.

Ingredients:

  • Bladderwrack
  • Cloves
  • Lotus seeds
  • Safflower
  • Orange Peel
  • Goldenrod
  • High John the Conqueror root
  • “Steady work” powder
  • “Job oil”
  • Black salt
  • Small green candle
  • Small white candle
  • Small gold candle
  • Jade pendant on a silver chain
  • Hecate statue
  • Cauldron
  • Charcoal incense disc
  • Lighter
  • Optional: Fresh berries or fruit

Ritual:

First, create a circle with the black salt. I like to perform rites outside. Moving clockwise, pour the salt in a circle large enough to encompass all participants and items. Place the Hecate statue on an altar, along with the candles, holders, and the cauldron. Place the charcoal disc in the cauldron.

All participants, facing East, hands raised: “Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East, the powers of air and invention. Hear us!”

All participants, facing South, hands raised: “Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the South, the powers of fire and feeling. Hear us!”

All participants, facing West, hands raised: “Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the West, the powers of water and intuition. Hear us!”

All participants, facing North, hands raised: “Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the North, the powers of the Mother and earth. Hear us!”

Me: “Blessed Hecate, hear our plea. On this, the longest day of the year, bless us with prosperity and opportunity. We are but humble servants and wish to work to achieve our goals.

“I light this candle to purify us, your supplicants, to make us worthy.” Light the white candle.

“I light this candle to bring us prosperity in our lives.” Light the gold candle.

“I anoint this candle to bring hope and luck in our job searches.” Rub the green candle with the job oil and light it.

Light the charcoal in the cauldron.

“In this cauldron, I add orange peel, symbol of the great Sun which blesses us on this, the longest day of the year, Litha.” Add the orange peel to the cauldron.

“I add goldenrod, the symbol of prosperity, so that the Sun’s light may shine upon us.” Add the goldenrod to the cauldron.

“I add High John the Conqueror root, so that he may bless us with good luck and fortune.” Add the High John the Conqueror root to the cauldron.

“I add lotus seeds, the symbol of air and overcoming obstacles.” Add the lotus seeds to the cauldron.

“I add safflower, the symbol of fire and good fortune.” Add the safflower threads to the cauldron.

“I add bladderwrack, the symbol of water and new opportunities.” Add the bladderwrack to the cauldron.

“I add cloves, the symbol of earth and harbinger of wealth.” Add the cloves to the cauldron.

“Finally, I add the powder of steady work so that our new opportunities be constant.” Add the steady work powder to the cauldron.

“Now, we eat golden raspberries, symbol of summer and delight.” Each eats a raspberry.

“By the power of Three Times Three, so mote it be! So mote it be! So mote it be!” Ring the bell three times.

Anoint the jade pendant with the job oil. Wave the smoke from the cauldron over it. Blow out the candles, thank Hecate for her aid, and break the circle.

Bonus: Get a job/work seven-day candle and keep it lit for a week.
