Beltane 2025

So, I decided to quit drinking on Beltane because I found it was no longer helpful in my journey. With the Fae Court Change and welcoming of the beginning of summer, I thought that would be the perfect opportunity to shed past dependencies and welcome a new mindset and good habits.

If you are struggling with dependency or simply want to get rid of a bad habit, I highly recommend this ritual. That night, I felt no need to drink, and I felt refreshed and new.

Ingredients:

  • Black salt
  • 2 Cauldrons
  • Black candle
  • Cedar oil
  • Bay leaf
  • Rosemary
  • Sage
  • Palo santo
  • Ritual bell
  • Charcoal
  • Dragon’s blood resin
  • Sandalwood
  • Lemon balm
  • Cloves
  • St. Johns Wort
  • Paper
  • Pencil

Instructions:

  1. Make a circle with the black salt.
  2. On the paper, write your intention and tear it up into 13 pieces.
  3. Cleanse the candle by running it under cool water and patting it dry.
  4. Light the candle.
  5. In one cauldron, light the charcoal.
  6. Add the dragon’s blood resin, bay leaf, rosemary, palo santo granules, and sage.
  7. Meditate over the smoke and think of releasing negative energies and addictions.
  8. Recite, “Mother Earth, I release myself from this prison of negativity and dependency. I have made space for new and positive energies.”
  9. Add the ripped pieces of paper.
  10. Ring the bell three times.
  11. In the second cauldron (or in a fire, weather permitting), light the charcoal and add the sandalwood, lemon balm, cloves, and St. John’s Wort.
  12. Recite, “Mother Earth, I welcome new beginnings and positive energy into my life. I take into myself the power to control my destiny.”
  13. Ring the bell three times.
  14. Let the candle burn down.
  15. Break the circle.

Court Change

Afterward, I left out a cup of milk, a piece of bread, and the final bit of alcohol that I had in the house. (I gave away the vast majority of it, but I found one last half-empty bottle.) This is what I did next.

  1. Outside, preferably in a place where the sun will touch, leave out the milk and bread.
  2. Pour the alcohol onto the ground.
  3. Recite, “On this day, we welcome the changing of the Fairy Courts. I thank the Unseelie for their night watch over the cold winter months and for guarding us against evil. I welcome the Seelie Court and wish them well in watching over us during the summer.”
  4. Touch the ground, and say thank you to the Fae.
  5. Leave the offerings out for 24 hours.

I hope you find these rituals helpful!
