It is the day after Ostara, the first day of Spring. Here is the reading I did regarding this blog:
The Reading
Past: V of Swords
The battle has raged, causing many casualties, but the war is not over. Regroup, study what went wrong, and discover blind spots or weak links. Underdeveloped communication is a key meaning of this card. Rethink your actions and how they affect others.
Present: The Lovers
This card represents the challenges of choosing a partner. I am at a crossroads and cannot take both paths. This card poses the question: Evolution or perfection? It advocates for personal growth through relationships—using others’ help to obtain goals in a healthy manner, ignoring the fantasy of perfection. Take full responsibility for your actions.
Future: King of Swords
Discover common ground and build on it. This card’s archetype is Solomon, the lawmaker. philosopher, and peacemaker. Take a more airy, philosophic approach and remove the strident rigors of the past.
Jumped Card: The Devil (reversed)
This card suggests I am enjoying my time off and creating chaos and resistance. It suggests I am simply being irritating. Suppress the joker impulse to get away from careless behavior even though they seem amusing at the moment. This likely refers to drinking too much.
Ostara
So, I actually did a ritual for Ostara, welcoming the Spring. Gather your ingredients:
- Salt (I used table salt because that’s what was available)
- White candle
- Yellow candle
- Green candle
- Cauldron
- Charcoal
- White copal resin
- Catnip
- Raspberry leaf
- Solomon’s Seal pellets
- Hibiscus flowers (can substitute dried rose petals)
Here is what I did last night:
- Go to the porch and make a circle in salt around the working area.
- Place a charcoal in the cauldron and light it.
- Add the white copal resin and the catnip.
- Call the quarters:
- Face the East and say, “Spirits of the East, Spirits of Air, I call to you. Join this celebration, I ask, and share your wisdom. At this time of equal day and night, welcome Air!”
- Move clockwise to the South and say, “Spirits of the South, Spirits of Fire, I call to you. Join this celebration, I ask, and share your inspiration. At this time of equal day and night, welcome Fire!”
- Move clockwise to the West and say, “Spirits of the West, Spirits of Water, I call to you. Join this celebration, I ask, and share your love. At this time of equal day and night, welcome Water!”
- Move clockwise to the North and say, “Spirits of the North, Spirits of Earth, I call to you. Join this celebration, I ask, and share your stability. At this time of equal day and night, welcome Earth!”
- Light the white candle.
- Contemplate winter–-the good, bad, and neutral.
- Say, “I let go of all that was not ideal. It no longer holds me frozen in place like the ice of winter. I am grateful for what it taught me, but I am moving forward and towards brighter days.”
- Add the raspberry leaf.
- Light the yellow candle.
- Contemplate blockers, struggles, and uncertainties.
- Say, “Let the light of this candle and of the returning springtime sun illuminate the answers I seek and need. I actively welcome clarity into my heart and life.”
- Add the Solomon’s Seal.
- Light the green candle.
- Contemplate ways to grow and prosper as well as goals unmet.
- Say, “Like the grass below our feet and the leaves upon our heads, I am ready and open to growth and renewal. I gladly invite positivity, change, and development into my life.”
- Add the hibiscus.
- Say, “Blessed be this day of new spring.”
- Let the cauldron burn for a bit, contemplating the new spring.
- Close the circle. Say, “Spirits of the North, West, South, and East, Spirits of Earth, Water, Fire, and Air, I thank you for your presence and your blessings. May there be peace and honor between us now and forever. Hail and farewell.”
- Break the circle.
Conclusion
I’ll be back with more readings and other workings. I’m going to take it slow and not be so stringent.
