A Labor Day Rite

While I wait for my Rider-Waite deck to come in, I thought I’d tell you about something interesting that happened to me yesterday and post a homemade ritual I did.

Some back story first:

On September 6, I lost my job. It was really upsetting because while my VP desperately wanted to hire me, the C-suite said they were outsourcing all new jobs. Now, I’d been given notice the week before, so I was prepared. I decided I’d gather some fellow jobless people and do a ritual on Labor Day to get a new job.

In preparation for spells like this, I like to take a cleansing bath. I used a “prosperity” mixture of salts, oils, and herbs for this spell. I lit a green candle during the bath and let it burn down.

Spell to Obtain a Job

Ingredients

Here is my list of ingredients. Ingredients in quotes are mixtures that my local metaphysical shop created.

  • Bladderwrack
  • Cloves
  • Lotus seeds
  • Safflower
  • “Steady work” powder
  • “Job oil”
  • “Money drawing” incense
  • Black salt
  • Small green candle
  • Jade pendant on a silver chain
  • Hecate statue
  • Cauldron
  • Charcoal incense disc
  • Lighter

Ritual:

First, create a circle with the black salt. I like to perform rites outside. Moving clockwise, pour the salt in a circle large enough to encompass all participants and items. Place the Hecate statue on an altar, along with the candle in a holder and the cauldron. Place the charcoal disc in the cauldron and light it.

All participants, facing East, hands raised: “Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East, the powers of air and invention. Hear us!”

All participants, facing South, hands raised: “Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the South, the powers of fire and feeling. Hear us!”

All participants, facing West, hands raised: “Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the West, the powers of water and intuition. Hear us!”

All participants, facing North, hands raised: “Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the North, the powers of the Mother and earth. Hear us!”

Me: “We beseech you in these times of turmoil. Bless us with prosperity and opportunity. We are but humble servants and wish to work to achieve our goals.

“I anoint this candle to bring hope and luck in our job searches.” Rub the green candle with the job oil and light it.

“In this cauldron, I add lotus seeds, the symbol of air and overcoming obstacles.” Add the lotus seeds to the cauldron.

“I add safflower, the symbol of fire and good fortune.” Add the safflower threads to the cauldron.

“I add bladderwrack, the symbol of water and new opportunities.” Add the bladderwrack to the cauldron.

“I add cloves, the symbol of earth and harbinger of wealth.” Add the cloves to the cauldron.

“Finally, I add the powder of steady work so that our new opportunities be constant.” Add the steady work powder to the cauldron.

“By the power of Three Times Three, so mote it be! So mote it be! So mote it be!”

Anoint the jade pendant with the job oil. Blow out the candle, thank Hecate for her aid, and break the circle.

Bonus: Get a job/work seven-day candle and keep it lit for a week.

Fast Forward…

So, I’ve been wearing the jade pendant since the ritual without taking it off, even at night or to shower. Since then, I’ve applied to over 300 jobs with no luck. Then, a few weeks ago, a former colleague messaged me on LinkedIn and asked if I was still in the job market. I said yes, and she told me about a position at a startup that’s a competitor to our old workplace. She asked if I was interested, and I said hell yes.

She sent my résumé over, and I almost immediately got a call for an interview. I nailed it. I rocked it. I shot it out of the park. The VP of Sales walked me out, and he said that I did great and I would definitely be hearing from them.

I started working for them a week later. I’ve been with the company for two weeks now. All this time, I’ve been wearing my jade pendant. I determined I would wear it for my first 90 days to ensure that I actually had the job for real.

Yesterday, the chain broke.

I believe that this means that the spell worked and that I no longer need the talisman to maintain job security. The jade itself is unharmed, so I think that should I need it in the future, it will be usable again.

The only downside is that it doesn’t seem to have worked for my roommate, who is still jobless. I’m going to see if perhaps the pendant will work for her.

What are your thoughts? What has worked for you?
